There is no standard size, the design of the domestic cold water supply to a house is dependent on how many bathrooms, how many showers, how many sinks in the kitchen etc..etc..a single bedroom flat would not have the same amount of water stored as would a six bedroom house with four bathrooms and utility room.

If you need to know the amount of cold water that you have in storage, have a look at the tank, there is probably a mark or a label on it somewhere that will tell you how big it is. If not measure it and calculate the capacity.

I dont know why you are interested in how many gallons are in a tank, however approx 50 gallons spring to mind.. If you are asking this question in order to replace the tank, bear in mind that the tank you buy must go through the door of the attic space. The original builder does'nt worry about you. It is possible to buy longer skinny tanks having the same capacity.

For a standard size house I would recommend a 230 litre tank.

40 - 65 gallons, should be chosen to suit size of dwelling and expected water useage, could be a lot bigger in a large house.
