Start with yourself. Cultivate tolerance. And that's it, I think.

You can't start a new religion. Religion means the orders of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Since you are not the Supreme, you can't start a religion. In fact, religion cannot be "started". Real religion or spirituality is eternal -- it has no beginning and no ending.

But there is no need to worry. The ideal you are interested in is already a key component of the Vaisnava philosophy. You may be interested to know that Lord Sri Krsna spoke the following to his disciple Arjuna in the Bhagavad-gita over 5,000 years ago: "The humble sages, by virtue of true knowledge, see with equal vision a learned and gentle brähmana, a cow, an elephant, a dog and a dog-eater [outcaste]." Bg 5.18 This means that a truly spiritual person, sees all living beings, not just human beings, as equal to himself. This is the real platform of equality. If you only want to see the human beings as equals so you can go on exploiting and killing animals for sense pleasure, then your philosophy is defective. The spirit soul, part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, is the life force in all species, not just the human beings. This is real philosophy and real religion.

To see all living beings equally requires pure spiritual vision acquired through purification of consciousness. Our present vision is now based on the material conception of the body and mind being the identity of the individual. This is ignorance of the real facts. We are not these material bodies or minds. We are the spiritual energy that gives life to the body and mind. That is our real identity. With that knowledge we can begin to achieve real peace and harmony on this planet.

You can start anything you want, including a religion, and specify as the most foundational principle (the prime directive) that all humankind is equal and to be seen and treated as such and then, if your followers multiply sufficiently (though a handful should suffice), you will find that the principle is not always adhered to - human nature will find a way to discriminate on some ground or other.

The problem is that while I believe profoundly in the equality of each of us at the level of personhood and everyone's right to be treated with dignity and respect I object to attempts to treat us all the same - because we're all different. And equality does not equal sameness - although equality laws are clearly necessary to protect people. Unfortunately, where there is difference there will be discrimination (some of it good, it is a function of an intelligent mind - one might not object to positive discrimination in favour of free travel for older people for example) and, even with the best of intentions, we are not perfect.

Religions, though they deserve much criticism for the way humans distort them, are usually based on sound founding principles - what is wrong with 'love your neighbour' for instance even if we don't always manage to achieve it?

Religions are not hotels for saints but rather hospitals for sinners.

Your name ARJUNA is a gift and a HINT. Arjuna was-is Krsna's good friend. If you FORGOT that, go read Bhaghavad-gita! No need for a new religion. Krsna says to "give up all religion and come to Me!" The Vedas are the eternal knowledge for all humans, regardles of race, creed, color, intelligence or caste. We are all EQUAL parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord. A new religion during an era of rascals, cheats and wannabe gurus will not help people remember or know! They must be given the Lord's mercy to remember Him! There are ways to become purified and remember.

Also, is there something "your false ego wants" out of starting a new religion? Are you looking for fame, glory, money, to be seen and heard as someone great or important? We ARE all the same as Him in "quality," but not QUANTITY! We are NOT equal to Him, and we are all on different places along the stairway to heaven to return Home!!! Are those desires for starting a religion all illusioned temporary desires you seek, part of Maya? When a sincere seeker seeks, the genuinely bone fide guru will appear and give him shelter so he can purify his dirty heart and go back to Home and Godhead after remembering, relearning to know, love and serve the Lord again in loving devotional service! he alone is our beloved who we left to be a rebellious rascal! Bhakti Yoga is the clearest path Home to Him!

Step One: get your self a new name. Such as "The holy One."

Step Two: Tell everyone you know including your friends and family that you started a new religion. Ask for donations and followers.

Step Three: Write a Bible. Include everything you can which states that all mankind is seen as equal.

Step Four: Repeat Step Two over and over again.

The fact you want to start a religion already sets you apart as unequal to all of the followers of your religion. Those would be all the rest of the people who didn't start your religion. Of course, you won't be the first to try it, so your religion would be competing with all of the other religions, each of which has set aside church leaders who aren't equal to the followers who aren't church leaders. The only religion which could recognize all as equal would have to be one which has no leaders, for starters.

You don't need to start a new religion. If you believe in God, you will understand that all men are created equal. I am a Christian and our faith has always taught that.

Namaste, Arjuna,

Mankind IS already equal. RELIGIONS are what delude people into thinking they're not.

I like to call it egalitarianism. It's not a religion, it's a philosophy, a belief. Check out --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarianism
