Should baseball implement an instant replay rule for close calls similar to football? If yes, how should they go about it?

I don't think so. The core of the game is batter against pitcher. Are you going to have a replay on every borderline ball or strike? Surely no one would be in favor of that. What would you use instant replay on? Catch-no catch? Fair-foul? This to my mind, would get complicated. What happens if a ball is ruled foul and they decide by replay that it was fair (I believe in actual fact few fair-foul calls are screwed up, the line and fair pole make them pretty easy) what are you going to do? Everyone has stopped running. You can't say ok, 123 go. If the umps decide what base everyone is going to be entitled too you start up a fresh argument and if you create some kind of automatic rule you create a boring play. Is there anything that screws up an exciting play more than a ground rule double? A runner loses the chance to score from first, a batter loses the chance for a triple and the defense loses the chance to make a big play and throw someone out. Replay rulings on catch-no catch would involve similar problems. For tag plays on the bases on TV they always show multiple angles and usually they can't definitely show whether the runner was safe or out so I believe you would probably end up with mostly the old upon further review the play stands as called scenario. Again, to my mind, the biggest problem with the umps is an inconstency in the way balls and strikes are called between different umps ( somewhat acceptable, players know the umps and adjust) and inconsistency from the same ump in a given game (not so acceptable) and I really don't see a way you're going to get replay involved there. I'm not going to say the rest of the calls don't matter but hopefully the bad calls even out, especially over the course of a 162 game season and its not worth getting instant replay involved.

No instant replay!

Baseball is a very unique sport, totally unlike football or basketball or hockey.

Part of baseball's charm is the umpires being right there and making the call (usually 95% right. yeah, sometimes they make a bad call. But they are only human, and that is another part of baseball's charm).

The problem is once you start second-guessing the umpires, credibility goes by the wayside.

I would keep it for genuine disputed calls, just like in football

no they should not it would waste time baseball games go long enough and they play those empires alot of money to call the games and the coaches flipping out would be alot less of it not cool cause its funny when they do well thats why i think

No, it would take the integrity out of the umpires and extend time in the games.
