Hi Daisy, I like different sorts of ornaments. I rarely have more than one of each kind on my tree and I try to buy at least one new one each year....if not more lol. I usually string beads of cranberries (fake of course), but it still gives the same effect. Many years ago my mother and I popped popcorn and strung it on the tree, not realizing that we poppped it in butter and that it would eventually leak all over the presents underneath the tree. What a mess we had ! LMAO......we should have air popped it. We never had the chance to do it again tho.

Hello, well I decortate my Christmas tree every year. I have one of those trees that already have the lights on them so I dont have to struggle with putting them on. Then I take out all my decorations and ornaments. I usually fill the whole tree every year with ornaments that I have had since I was 2 years old. I do buy several new ornaments every year though. Sometimes I find some really elegant ones and sometimes I find ones to symbolize being home for the holidays. Mostly, I just decorate it to how I feel will make that Christmas more meaningful!!!!!

Decorating our tree is a really big production in my house, It starts 2 days before thanksgiving and lasts till thanksgiving morning. Out tree is a really big 9 foot tree that looks real (I have to get the ladder out)and at night while everyone is asleep I put it up, and then put all the lights on and turn them on all night and seperate the orniments into the kids orniments and my orniments that next evening we play christmas music and they help me hang the strings of garland (christmas candy) and they put up there orniments and we put the angle on top. The next day when they wake up all the orniments are on the tree and about 30 of them are moving (ornimotions) and the tree is twinkling and there is a presents under the tree for each member of the family. The kids eyes light up every year.

My children loved it when they were little, my foster children of 4 years love it now and I'm sure my Granddaughter will love it this year also, she just turned 1 and I cant wait to see her eyes light up.

Every Christmas we decorate the tree with 10 things we like and then when we go on trips during the year we each get a ornament sometimes we even get the kids the own tree. they absolutely love Christmas. It is the best time of the year.
Merry Christmas

We string popcorn and cranberries to hang outdoors on the evergreens for the birds during the holidays.
Indoors I usually try to have a theme for the tree. A few years ago when my first grandchildren was due I decorated the christmas tree in all first christmas ornaments then gave them to my daughter-in-law when we took the tree down.
I thinking of doing our tree this year in reds and silvers and maybe some wide red ribbon to wrap around the branches.

I would love to do that but since I have pets who like popcorn not an option. I have always had a fake tree started when I was a kid so I still do it. We start on Thanksgiving day and usually use colored lights that has this box that plays Christmas songs and the lights twinkle to the music or it can be solid or twinkle with no music (depends on mood). Then almost ALL the ornaments are mine from when I was a kid my mom started giving them to me and that is what I use, along with some of those gold engraved kind you can get like at Wal-mart. Mother in law started giving those to us, started in 1991 and thankfully ended about 6 years later. Also mixed in are some glass bells and oval and diamond shaped mirrors.

I think your tree should reflect your own personality - if you like the old-fashioned way, then do it! If you want something less expensive than the commercial decorations, try red bows you tie yourself or wrap small raisin boxes in Christmas paper with gold string and put those on your tree! I decorate with a jungle theme because my little apartment is decorated in a Morrocan style and my tree, with its monkeys, elephants, lions, tigers, and zebras works for me and makes me happy! I use the "traditional" cranberry string for garland and love what it adds to my tree. You have fun decorating your tree, whatever you do. That is where the "tradition" part comes in!!

I often do different themes and this was my favorite and most successful. I made dozens of little yarn dolls in greens, reds, white and browns and made several dozen simple little stuffed birds out of calico in colors like the dolls. I found tiny little bushel baskets and tied them to the tree branches with red checked ribbon and filled them with red and white peppermint candies. I did popcorn strands and a paper chain garland. It was cute and very child friendly except when my toddler pulled it down to get at the "toys" all over the tree.

I let my children decorate the family tree. I box their ornaments in separate containers and they decorate the tree for what seems like hours. They love it and so do I. I have my own tree that I decorate. For the last two years I have used purple and gold. I display it in my front living room. It looks very elegant. I do however, prefer the traditional family trees.

Before i met my boyfriend i used to decorate the tree with white lights and red ornaments, mostly bows and some pearl strands in red. Thought it looked country and cozy. :) My parents still put all the crap i made in school on theirs - the paper chains, the ornaments - it's cute and sweet, but the tree looks pathetic with 25 year old torn paper ornaments hanging off of it - lol
