how to reformat my hp?

I am trying to reformat and reinstall windows me. I have the code cd and boot disk. But when I started to try to format it told me that it was reading the D drive but nothing was in the drive. So how do I go about it?

well the drive must be empty, so i suggest....

you reboot with the boot disk install all the boot information; on reboot, insert the CD and go from there.....
