New Moon - The Moon's unilluminated side is facing the Earth. The Moon is not visible (except during a solar eclipse).
Waxing Crescent - The Moon appears to be partly but less than one-half illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is increasing.
First Quarter - One-half of the Moon appears to be illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is increasing.
Waxing Gibbous - The Moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is increasing.
Full Moon - The Moon's illuminated side is facing the Earth. The Moon appears to be completely illuminated by direct sunlight.
Waning Gibbous - The Moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is decreasing.
Last Quarter - One-half of the Moon appears to be illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is decreasing.
Waning Crescent - The Moon appears to be partly but less than one-half illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is decreasing.

A full moon would be when you can see the entirety of the moon, it will appear total round, a new moon is when you can see no moon in the sky at all. This is because half the moon is facing the sun and the other (much darker side) is facing earth, meaning we can not see it as no light is reflecting of that surface. New Moons occur every month, or there abouts. Hope that helped :D

Difficult without drawing a diagram.
Full is when the sun's light reflects off the whole visible surface of the moon; in angles, effectively, the sun, moon and observer are in a straight line with obs. in the middle. New moon is when the effective angle between sun, moon and obs. is closer to 90deg with moon at the apex. The sun the appears to light only one edge of the moon.
The other difference is 14 days.

full moon is the middle of the lunar cycle when the entire moon can be seen completely round. A new moon is whenn the earth's shadow is cast upon the moon by being between the moon and the sun therefore no moon is visible in the sky. this ia the begining of a new lunar cycle

well, a full moon is visible as a whole disc-lik structure.
new moon is actually not visible, becasue the earth comes in between the moon and the sun adn therefore the sun's rays don't reach the moon, so it can't reflect back. and for the mpoon to be visible , it needs an external light source to reflect back.

Hope this helps
