If I had been asked this question a few years ago, I would have replied that I am proud to be British, rather than English. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts, etc. However, a combination of factors have conspired to modify my views, and I now consider myself to be English first and foremost, and British an increasingly distant second. This is chiefly because I can foresee the need to "fight my corner" as an Englishman in the face of (mainly) Scottish nationalism.
When I say "fight," I am not advocating any kind of violence against any ethnic group, or the imposition of restrictions upon any nationality within the United Kingdom. Quite the contrary, I advocate equal rights and equal opportunities for all. In order to help to achieve this, I would like to see the creation of an English parliament with powers equivalent to those of the Scottish parliament, and the Westminster parliament dealing only with United Kingdom matters such as defence and foreign policy (for as long as the UK continues to exist).
Politics apart, I am fed up with Scotland football supporters who support anybody against England, to the point where I now reciprocate.
Yes, I am proud to be English. I am just as proud to be English as Scots are to be Scottish, Welsh to be Welsh, Irish to be Irish etc. Why? If you are proud of your own nationality then you already know the reasons; they are near enough the same.

I am not English or a Brit. I am from the USA so I can only say that I am proud of being from my country. But I'm sure some of the English people are proud of where they are from but it sure don't seem like it on the news is see. Seems like they are always mad about something so maybe that is why so many of them leave and go live some where else.

Yes, I am proud to be English! This is the country that exported democracy, justice and industrialisation to the world (and yes I know that the Scots, Welsh and Irish also played a part). This is the country that believes in fair play and support of the underdog. The thing I am not proud of is the way successive governments have allowed our country and culture to be raped by the hordes who seek to abuse our good nature and hospitality.

I,m English, but will only be proud being so when we stop apologizing to the whole world for everything we,ve ever done.which is more good than bad. We should get rid of the stranglehold the Scots have on us ,and make everyone who wants to live in this country realize that it,s a privilege not a RIGHT, to live here.If we are that bad then all i can say to you non English is Sod off.

No, I'm not proud of being English as I believe to be British. As long as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are still under the rule of the same government as us I will always refer to this country as Britain. I'm not proud to be British especially as I'm from London, the worlds most multicultural city. There's too many cultures here and I'm ashamed of this countries past. Colonising other lands. How disgraceful.
