I am 28 years old and I know a 16 year old girl who keeps talking about running away, I have advised her that if she came to me I would have to call the local sheriffs department as soon as she arrived here. I know that there is severe mental abuse in the home and I have already seen DFS go into the home and pretty much allow her parents to call her a sl*t and other awful things. She was put on birth control because of heavy constant periods and she was called names for that. She was put on zoloft for depression and they fight her about filling it saying the doctor is stupid and she doesnt need it. They allow physical and mental abuse from the brother that is a year older and allow the other 2 brothers to dicipline her. They take the siblings word over hers and always have. Can anything be done for her????

The previous 2 answers were incorrect, at least for the US. She is unable to leave if she is under 18 years of age if her parents want her home. She would be arrested and charged with the status offense of runaaway, and would be charged in juvenile court. Her family would have to pay the extradition costs to return her to her home. Most likely, she would be placed on Electronic Monitoring from the time of her arrest until her dispositional hearing. That could be over a month or so of wearing an electonic bracelet on her ankle. She'll be placed on probation, and returned to the custody of her parents. One of the conditions of probation might be to order family counseling, so that could help.

If you know that she has run away, and do not contact the police, you, as an adult, could be arrested for harboring a runaway.

Really, the only thing you can do is report this to DFS or DCS or whatever it is called in your state.

Are there any other relatives that her family would allow her to live with, such as a grandparent or uncle or aunt?

When she turns 17 in the US, then she is free to leave, until then, the only thing you can do is to turn the family in again, and see if it helps this time. Get proof of what is going on, and trun that in to the DFS. Other than that, I am not sure what can be done.

I want to let you know, I'm a single mother that is going through a lot with her 15 teen year old daughter. Her being a runaway and much more, but what i can tell you is nothing really can be done. And that's what sucks because the things my daughter is doing is out of control until she wants to stop. But what you are talking about is a different then what i'm going through, just by a little i am dealing with dcfs if that's what you mean bye dfs/ but i will tell you this, that dcfs has and is known for not doing there job. and this has to come to end. i get it the parents are doing wrong, but when the kid is not listening it needs to change. know for you to say in the US that a child is unable to leave if there under 18, i want to know what state you live in cause they can leave and not get charged it's not a crime.... We as parents need to change this....
