Anyone who has lived in a true democracy may not understand what it is and maybe very afraid of it. The people of the US have lived it for over 225 years. We have become complacent with the notion of our freedoms, taking many for granted. Some evolving countries toying with forms of democracy are still very new to it. Democracy means having a citizen-represented government. It means having the greatest amount of freedom allowed under a constitutional government.

Well democracy is the freedom of choice, yet we need to be careful that freedom of choice equate to freedom of choice for the society, because freedom of choice includes the right NOT to subscribe to America (to a lesser extent Western European) version of Democracy.
So to that extent Singaporeans understand (and perhaps subscibe to democracy) just are not able or not willing to subscribe to American democracy.

for a start, it is not just about leaderships but also the support of good-minded and experienced people who knows mostly if not least the right and wrong things which are between the thin line of balance in a society.
love, compassion, wisdom, understanding are some of the values which can help a society progress.
people in need is helped and possibilites of the negatives are kept to a minimum if not at a lower limit.
being a leader is not easy and it needs lots of experience and other factors.
we cannot take things for granted but at the same time remain flexible.
