i have a 1983 yamaha vision 550 and am having huge ignition timing problums...?

i just swaped motors, have changed spark plugs, but caint get it to start, it turns over but than.... so i read the manual and it says nothing on how to do the timing.... now just cuz im a girl doesnt mean i dont know what im doing, i just need help, so any one know how to do the timing?????!!!!!

Since you installed a "used" engine do you have any idea at all when the timing belt was last changed? It may be way overdue and that could be the source of your problem.
It could also need a fairly simple timing adjustment. If it's off a degree or two that could also be your problem. Proper timing adjustment isn't all that "simple" so you may want to have a pro do it.
