Norton allowed a virus on my system a few months ago, via IM. I set Norton up to guard the IM, but it failed to catch it. I wound up having to reinstall my whole system, took 3 days!!!
Norton doesn't grab everything. This happened once before also when surfing the net. It's just not quick enough, it sees it...after it's already on the system. I'm shopping for a better program myself.

choosing between those you indexed: i might bypass with McAfee over Norton. After 19 years in I.T I won't bypass into the themes Norton has on fairly some ranges & conflicts they be attentive to exist yet won't fix. That pronounced Kaspersky is unquestionably properly worth a seem over the two Norton & McAfee. in the journey that your on a funds out of the unfastened innovations: i might bypass with Avast over AVG

Norton is a RAM EATER!It slows down the computers with less than 512 MB of RAM.
I currently use Avast!Antivirus which is a great one and also FREE! to home users.
DOS users remember Avast32 as a powerful antivirus.
NOD32 is a smart choice too.

Home editions? Neither. Both are bloated pieces of garbage that require you to run a gig of ram to maintain any speed at all.
TrendMicro / PCCillian has given good results of you do the minimal install (you don't need the firewall if you're running XP).

Try NOD32. It's better than both, but has a bit unpractical interface.
If it has to be something between the two you mentioned, I'd go for Norton.

AVG and Ewido are free, but if it has to be one of those, I'd reccommend Norton. From what i've heard, McAfee's really bad.

Neither - they both are a computer resource hog. Plus they're not really all that great at protecting you from malware (i.e. viruses, keyloggers, spyware, adware). I recommend AVG.
