Anything you want-- it is a night for having fun and doing something different- use your imagination and enjoy yourself. I personally will be handing out the candy and I really enjoy the kids who used imagination and came up with some really good costumes. Little kids dressed up as jungle animals are always cute- the older kids usually pick something scary or a favorite character from a movie. One particularly rambuncitious teen ager was dressed as a brick and his girlfriend was dressed as a brick layer-- how they got their parents to agree to that was beyond me, but it made me laugh!

I worked with a girl who had a brilliant costume one year:
She had her high school graduation gown which was in a kind of ocean blue.
She sewed wads of cotton balls randomly around the entire gown.
She carried a plant mister with water in it.
Whenever anyone asked her what she was, she'd say
"Partly cloudy" (then she'd mist them) "With a chance of showers"
