I don't think anyone here will disagree that Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. were the two who best showed how great it was to imitate Christ.

Do you think it's a mere coincidence that they were both leftists?

Ghandi in no way imitated Christ, except thru non-violence, the rest of his life was in no way "christ-like."

MLK was closer to the mark but still missed by a wide margin.

But yes, I do agree that they were much closer than today's ministers and preachers who spout war and hate symbology and follow the doctrine of worldly politicians instead of the love christ showed for the world of mankind at large.

Great point!

Sorry but I must disagree with what you said about Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. as imitaters of Christ. They had their political agendas. Christ's agenda was not political but was religious. That is why his teachings caused such a stir. Just like to day if someone is observing Bibilical teachings then there is always an uproar.

No praying or using God's name in schools or other state functions. No speaking of Jesus in the work place, etc.
Yes to an extent the affore mentioned men had a form of Godliness yet they held more political views.

It is true that concern for the less fortunate has been construed as leftist. I see so many conservative republicans blast the lib commie-leftie welfare state, without ever mentioning the huge amounts of corporate and agricultural welfare that goes on. Or the tax breaks that come into play only when the first 3 million are already tax free and only 3% will ever benefit from these breaks. but 97% will have to make up the money from their pockets. Christ wasn't concerned with business and profit margins, and living in huge Mc Mansions or Crystal Palaces.
I don't know myself why hatred of the less fortunate makes them so angry. Money surely has a place but the level of arrogance that proclaims the having of it makes one somehow "better" on a spiritual basis eludes me.

Since being associated with extreme measures is part of the definition of a leftist. I'd say you need to exhaust all other avenues first prior to adopting 'extreme measures'. As to the great Martin Luther King's Democratic party, in those days they actually stood for things as opposed to the newly adopted blather they give us which consists of frothing at the mouth. How can I respect that? Ghandi, a great man, stood for peace, never issued complaint, though he could have, expected nothing of his fellow man and accepted total responsibility for his own actions blaming noone for the state in which he found himself. Dems do that? Nah. Your premise is faulty. Do some reading.

Many leftists you don't mention surely don't emulate the message Christ was teaching. You picked two holy men to compare to. Unfair on your part and very stupid to think leftists are a sparkling example to follow

The people you listed had the message freedom for the oppressed. It is a good message, but...

Christ never talked about human rights in my recollection. His message was to repent for salvation.

If you think imitating Christ is a sign of greatness, you are sadly mistaken.
