Bot fly, also known as warbles.

They can also get into dogs and cats. Their bodily fluids are quite toxic and can kill a puppy or kitten if you squeeze them.

Careful. We have them here also, and I had 2 dogs get warbles over the years.

The bot-fly does that.
It lays it's egg in the skin and the larvae grows there while eating the flesh. It leaves after it pupates. They can cause disease and even death in some cattle.

Bot flies maybe so called because hey infest the cow's bot.
