For the same price as what the war in Iraq will eventually cost: at least 750 billion dollars, we could have either:

Allowed the government to hire a private company to offer the (optional) installation of $10,000 worth of solar panels *per home* in America and increase our wind energy resources and as such would have drastically reduced our dependence on foreign oil.

Or we could have ended homelessness in America 10x over (or almost worldwide)

Do you people really trust these politicians???

To: badfinger who says "you can not end homelessness, you can only fight the disease." Actually you are seriously wrong, homelessness could be ended (at least temporarily), statistically this is a FACT OF MATHEMATICS. The highest estimates of homeless people in america are about 750,000 and 750,000,000,000 divided by 750,000 comes to about 1 million dollars for every homeless person (enough money to make every homeless person in America a millionaire...more than enough for each homeless person to put a down payment on at least 10 homes each, or to buy at least three small homes a piece)

For the same money, we could have pursued terrorism in an intelligent, focused way. This would have been the preference of all Democrats, even the environmentalists. Remember back when the US first went to war against Bin Laden? The US as a whole was united in that goal!

At the cost of much less money and blood, we could have stayed in Afghanistan and killed Bin Laden. We could have supported the moderate government of Karzai and destroyed the evil Taliban. Guess what? We didn't accomplish anything in Afghanistan. Do you have any idea of what a mess it is? It's almost back to Taliban rule, the major export is raw heroin, high school principles have been kidnapped and beheaded, and girl's schools have had to close or be bombed.

You can use whatever fantasy you wish to spend the money in a different way, but one thing is for sure, the war is far from over. The invasion of Iraq was only the first step in what will become a much larger and real WAR. So far, it is a police action, not a true war. If only the citizenry of the USA only knew the long term plans which were put in place during the Reagan administration, they couldn't sleep at night. It will be only a short time and we will look back at Iraq as a speed bump. GET READ FOR A REAL WAR!!

It become a purely war while Bush 40-one did desolate tract typhoon. It wasn't properly well worth the cost of Bush 40 3 getting in following 9/11. concentration on Afghanistan fallowing 9/11 could have been understood, going after Saddam Hussein become ludicrous.

Iraq is not at present a pretty sight. Whether it will calm down in due course remains to be seen. What we will never know is how the situation would have developed in that region if the Americans (and allies) had not invaded Iraq. It could be that it would have been ten times worse.

Not at all. North Korea has always been our biggest threat after the cold war. Darfur has had far worse humanitarian problems than Iraq.

But Americans wouldn't get to vent their anger on another fallen American puppet regime. Solar panels aren't sexy. Dropping bombs on children is.
