Just wondering how the guy did this: My key wouldn't go past the ACC mark in the ignition (not to start or on) but somehow the guy got my car into neutral and turned the wheels to get the car out of the parking spot (I do have power steering.. 97 Toyota corolla). Just wondering how it was done. He used a front lifting tow. Also, I had him drop the car and me off at the mechanic and he didn't go into the car after the tow so is my car sitting there in neutral or did he tow it with the car in park?

i own a repair shop,,and yes you can tow a front wheel drive car in park, and no i doubt that its setting there in neutral,i have them towed to my shop all the time in park, and usually they,,ll put them some where so you can get to them,,but the rear wheels don't pull on a front wheel drive vehicle,,so they can be towed by lifting up the front,,good luck,i hope this hep,s.

On your car, the transmission only locks the front wheels when in park. If you have a front wheel drive and you lift up the front wheels, it can be towed. The rear wheels are therefore always in neutral, unless you put the parking brake on, which locks the back wheels.

even the most reliabe cars on the market breakdown, therefore all cars have an override to put the car in neutral for towing purposes.
as for powersteering it is hard but you can move the fluid by cranking the steering wheel.
the car is in neutral if he did not reset the overirde.

you can tow a front-wheel-drive in park, the back wheels will spin free if the emergency brake is off.
