soliloquies - pieces spoken by actors in plays when no one else is on the stage. "Oh pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth . . ." from Julius Ceasar is a famous one. So is "To be, or not to be", from Hamlet.

soliloquy..this is the act of talking to one's self.. whether it is on stage, as in Shakespeare's works, or in modern theatre, it is the same.. but also, it can apply to that moment in front of the mirror when you are working out your speech.. trying to come up with the perfect way to ask for a raise.. or to promote your case for staying out later than usual the night before... you are talking to yourself and no one else.. thus, a solilioquy.
