There are several. Here are my picks:
Shawshank Redemption
21 Grams
Citizen Kane
Star Wars (Episodes 4-6)
Lord of the Rings
Crash
The Usual Suspects
Forrest Gump
The Princess Bride
Momento
Pleasantville
Unfaithful
Unforgiven
What Dreams May Come
Mystic River
Life of David Gale
The Notebook
Love Actually
Braveheart
The Thin Red Line
These movies, in my opinion, define what life is. Love & hate, life & death, pleasure & suffering, pride, sadness, anger, courage, fear, and forgiveness.

I'd have to say the Ten Commandments. The one with Charleston Heston in it. It's an awesome movie and the special effects, (parting of the red sea) are the best considering how old the movie is and when it was made.

Midnight Run with Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. It's the funniest movie I've ever seen.

Windy City. It did not make the movie theatres but you can probably find it on video.
It handles the human struggle with life and death and love pretty well. It's really sappy and pretty dated. I think it was filmed in the early eighties.
