No. We have needs. The more awkward you feel, the more you make the people at the counter and you act in an awkward way.

I just walked in like a cool dude and put a packet of condoms on the counter.

The people at the counter just scanned the code and asked for money. Always. They sometimes do not even take a second look. Like I am just buying a packet of milk.

When I was young, most stores had them behind the counter and you had to ask the druggist to show them to you-yes that was quite awkward, especially if the clerk who was a woman assisted. Once they showed up on racks in the stores, when I was about 20, I wasn't overly embarrassed, but did buy one or two other items to hide what I was carrying. Later years, no big deal, my friend and I used to go at lunch to Target and stock up on our Magnums, and get laughs at how many times the clerk dropped them, since we checked out together. USA
