Sorry whoever said that but 4 days before your period starts is not when you ovulate - its more like 14 days before (was it a typo?).

The most likely time for you to ovulate is around 14 days after your period starts, but this varies from woman to woman. If you're trying to get pregnant, have regular unprotected sex from a few days after your period ends.

There are other ways of knowing when you ovulate - your body gives you signs, such as temperature, change of vaginal discharge, etc. Some women get slight period-like cramps when they ovulate. I would highly recommend the book, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Its a book every woman should read, it tells you so much about how your monthly cycle affects so much of your body. You can get it from amazon. The website is www.tcoyf.com or www.ovusoft.com. You can also buy ovulation prediction kits (same place as pregnancy tests), but these are expensive. The book explains the fertility awareness method (FAM), a great way to either avoid getting, or maximise your chances of getting, pregnant! It worked for me!

Usually about 14 days after the first day of your period, but that's only if you have a 28 day cycle.

hi!
well..if you know how long your cycle is(from the first day of your period all the way to the next one) it's usually 4 days before you start your period...that is the most "fertile" days. That's when the egg starts coming down to get fertilized. Hope I helped you out!!
