We hired a company to replace areas of rotten wood on a front porch and repair other areas that needed new wood and painting. Clearly the work was not upto par and the renter even put his foot through the wood after the repair had already been made. Wehn asked about the repair, he stated "he had already repaired it and he didn't have to do anythign else". What can we do other than report him to the Better Business Bureau? This has cost alot of money.

One option is to take a few pictures of the bad repair job, hire an attorney if one will take the case), and take the contractor to court. In most states, if it is under $5,000, the issue is settled in small claims court. It would be great if you could bring your renter (and others) to court as a witness.

You shouldnt have paid. Its hard to recover money. In my state we have a government body responsible for tradesmen and retailers... Similar to yours no doubt.

My first step would be to call them for advice.
