I am adding 2 new 300g drives to my computer that I plan on setting up in a stripped raid configuration. There are currently two drives in my computer now and since there is only room for a total of 3 drives, I need to remove one to make room for the other 2. The drive I want to remove is the one with least amount of storage but is also the drive that has all my program files and operating system info on it. So what is the best way to move the info from the small drive to the other drive in my computer and have it boot up and run properly- before I add the two other drives in stripped raid configuration?

sorry...you can't shift your operating system and other softwares from your old drive to any of the new drives...you have to load them all in your new drive. You can shift other files and photos to the new drive.

It can be done but then you will have to purchase a third-party utility like Norton Ghost.

I think you already know the following but I will still say it anyway, just for reinforcement:

It would be much easier to keep the HDD with the OS and programs (remove all data files to the other drives, how much more programs do you need to put on this drive? You said smallest, but in absolute terms how big is it? Most likely, you wouldn't store any data on this drive) as the master on the Primary controller (even though it is the smallest) and the optical drive (CD/DVD +RW) as the slave on this controller.

Then add the two new 300 G drives on the Secondary controller (master and slave), convert them to active disks, and configure RAID 0.

you need to put in your windows xp in any of your working cd drives and run windows xp, and do a whats called a partition on the drive that you want windows xp to run in, just follow the dirrections , but if you already have windows xp, when you run the disc, its going to say that you already have windows xp, so at this point what you need to do is , you know when you first start your computer, on the top right of the screen it will say something like press f11 or press f12 for setting options , well every computer is differrent, if your not sure , as soon as the computer starts up, keep pressing either f11 or f12 or delete and if those dont work you can try any of the f numbers, but basicaly what you want your computer to do is start on the mode where you can sellect your computer to boot itself on the drive that your windows xp is in, then your xp will run and you can make a new partition on any drive that you want. I hope this helps. good luck

As others have observed, no, no longer with a standard document reproduction because the carry close boot record is not written to the 2d rigidity. making use of a few form of rigidity imaging application (e.g. Symantec Ghost) is the acceptable wager. particular instructions on UNIX-like structures may be used to do it, such as the boot record (i have used Linux LiveCDs to clone disks interior the previous). an additional advantageous aspect to save in ideas is licensing - domicile windows operating structures frequently ballot the hardware for quite some serial numbers, hardware identifiers, etc, to ascertain if the reproduction of the OS is pirated. If it truly is domicile windows XP or Vista, imaging a rigidity is merely about particular to reason the reproduction to fasten down (requiring a lengthy call to a MS call center in India the position you've gotten to guarantee them, "No, i'm no longer attempting to installation a duplicate of domicile windows on 2 machines, so please reactivate the reproduction.") at the same time as that's placed in a clean device because the hardware ought to have distinct identifiers. Imaging is accordingly frequently in reality achieved by making use of businesses which have paid for particular web site licenses that enable them to finish imaging. finally, the different situation is this - even if you imaged the rigidity effectively and moved it to a unique device, it ought to no longer even boot and run acceptable even if that's moved to a device with a lot distinct hardware. it truly is even if the anti-piracy locks do not lock down the gadget.
