Not necessarilt carpal tunnel, but CUBITAL tunnel...I had it in BOTH arms, turns out it was due to an accident where I jammed my elbows and pinched the nerve there...trie conventional treatment, but in the end,it required surgery...now it is 100%...I can bowl, type, volleyball...all without the numbness and tingling

since your feelings are on the left side this could be serious. Instead of asking advice on Yahoo, you should be asking a Dr. The left side could be something as serious as a heart condition and needs to be treated immediately. Or, it could be a blood clot, or pinched nerve which can show signs of numbness or tingling in any part of your body. Either way, this is all too serious to ignore. When your body is in pain or uncomfortable it is telling you, something is not right and needs proper attention. Hopefully, if this is a serious problem, it is an "Early" warning. You never know. Don't waste any time playing guessing games. Seek medical attention right away.

Yeah, you need to have that checked out. It's probably NOT a heart attack but just to let you know there is such a thing as deferred pain. This means that the pain could be derived from one part of the body, but you're feeling it at another. (However I would expect some shortness of breath with a heart attack. Since it has worsened with the pill, it may be a blood clot. This is a serious situation and you should really be checked out immediately.

I had this from a shoulder problem. It resulted from carrying heavy things (laptop, purses) on my left shoulder, which I had done for years with almost no incident, but when you pass your 40th birthday, and are in a somewhat tense situation that makes you unconsciously hunch and develop poor posture, and don't exercise, and gain weight -- all of which I was doing -- it can mushroom into a horrible shoulder-and-neck-and-arm thing that involved both numbness, and pain radiating from the back of the neck all the way down to the wrist and pinky. I thought I would be in pain from this permanently. Physical therapy and painkillers were some help, but what finally got rid of it was getting out of the stressful situation, losing weight, and starting to exercise (carefully at first). And I now try NOT to carry heavy things on my left shoulder for fear it will start up again. What you have could be the beginning of what I had. It would be really bad for you since you're a musician to have that kind of arm pain for weeks. Of course make sure it's not cardiac, but I bet you have the beginnings of a nerve thing...So don't carry heavy things on the left side (get wheeled bags). Start exercising carefully if you don't already -- swimming is good. No heavy weights on shoulder-exercise machines -- use only an elastic Pilates band rather than the machine, or put the machine on the very teeniest lightest-weight setting, motion with very slight resistance is good but weight is very bad! I have friends who swear by yoga to keep their backs from going out. If you need to lose weight, do so now. Don't sit in ergonomically bad chairs or at ergonomically bad desks. Ask your doctor if he can refer you to someone who does, for example, sports medicine, who might be able to see if you need physical therapy.

It could be one of many things .. you say that you "played a gig" .. I don't know how often you do that .. if that is how you make your living ? .. But, it could be from something called: Repetitive Stress Syndrome. If you go to the Doctor and they find you have that , you only need to wear arm / and, or hand braces that are just made of a thick material to hold your arms/hands in place as you sleep. Or it may just be a pinched nerve .. the only way to know for sure is to see a Doctor. If it continues, I would do that. Good Luck ! :)

I've had exactly same symptoms for about two weeks now, some days worse than others.I believe it's atrapped nerve of some sort, definitely not heart related but it was worrying at first.I haven't visited doctors yet (hoping it goes away),but i've found stretching and exercising arm/hand helps a little. Please mail me if you see your doctor before i do and me tell their opinion....thanks....also have a look at this website= www.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoze/tw4302.asp?navbar=aa3102 I've had trapped nerve problems before in neck and shoulders and this feels similar so i'm guessing it could be Ulnar Tunnel but i'm no doctor, only an assumption.....

you need 2 c your doctor who may request neurology consult , just to exclude some other things like MS, hopefully not.
i wish 2 hear good news from u.
this has absolutely nothing to do with the heart & am amazed how people speculate such a thing without any prior medical knowldge.
also carpal tunnel does NOT affect the pinky ,people.

This could be a sign of heart problems. One of my employers had about the same symptoms, he wound up having a triple bypass. Consult your doctor.
