I had a small raised lump in my armpit, went to the doctor and it was an in-growing hair from shaving that had got infected. It just went away on its own. So it could be that or it could be an absess. It also could be something more serious as previously mentioned, the only way to be sure is to go to the doctor and have it checked out. Lumps should always be checked out by a doctor just in case.
Hope this is helpful, and tell your friend to make an appointment! :)

Could be a blocked sweat gland. Also, the glands under your arms can come up when you're under the weather. Cold, flu etc.
If they don't go away, get the doctor to check them out.

lymph nodes many things cause this, when you shave under your arms the hair grows back and goes back inside the skin blocking the pores which cause lumps,

Please go see a doctor immediately. My father had swollen lymph nodes under his armpits and it turned out to be non-hodgkins lymphoma - and was already in Stage 2.
Not saying it's cancer but you need to take it very seriously and get it checked out. Good luck to you.
