I'm building a music based website & am planning to include relevant links to iTunes, HMV etc probably using Tradedoubler, unless I can find a better company to use

I fully accept that I'll never make a fortune from it, but is £1,000-£2,000 a month realistic assuming the site was successful and had an established user base? It's a big assumption I know, but if it works out then I'd really like to go full time with it. (Plus I can't stand my day job!)

Without a doubt yes and good money too. A website is like a magazine and gathers a number of core readers and as it goes along it keeps finding ways to get more readers. Essentially the readers of your website are the same people who will want to buy the products or services of your advertisers. When you sell advertising you have to live three to six months in the future. So you need to keep in touch with your advertisers, determine what kind of stories and articles would be of interest to your advertisers as well as your readers. Then write or have the stories or articles written. The next step is to write a pitch letter to prospects with a copy of the story\article and when it will be published. In the pitch letter show how the article and\or story will show a demand for their product (it sounds like you shouldn't have to connect the dots, but you do). Lastly your pitch letter you should include how you let people know about your website and how many people read it. This sounds like it might be difficult, but it is not. There have been written a million books on how to let people know about Internet websites and easy ways of gathering statistics. Lastly offer space for an advertisement on the same page the article will appear and number to call to talk about the rates you charge. Good luck!

do you mean adsense or the like? If you have enough paes of popular content, then you might make some real money, but it takes time to develop a site that attracts enough visits. I think you need at least 200 pages of top ranking content to be able to live on the advertising revenue!
