I don't drive; I stay home and just finish stuff I have to do, like make the kids' lunches and do the laundry, watch TV. Does this make me an alcoholic? It hasn't caused me any problems with my life up to now. My new husband doesn't like it, but it has always been relaxing to me. Now I'm wondering if you do find something like this that helps you, is it bad?

No it dosn't make you an alcoholic. I have some wine often too. Granted it is not every night, but it is often. Sometimes it is several nights in a row. Sometimes I will have more that a couple glasses. I also find it relaxing especially after a long, busy, hetic day. Nothing wrong with it. Let's have a glass together. What kind do you like? I like most any. Enjoy!! Sam

No way is two glasses of wine a night alcoholism. It has been said that one glass of wine a night is good for you. You may be very slightly dependant on the wine but it's not a particularly serious thing.

I take it you are in US and I get the impression you just don't have a big drinking culture there. In many countries nearly everyone drinks at least that much on a regular basis e.g. in France where it's common to have wine with every meal.

Personally I don't think your husband has the right to make an issue of it.

I have no direct experience with this however my wife's parents believed that a small glass every night is good for you. Something worked because he lived to be 83 and she to 78.

Now you say two classes. Any addiction can be determined by one thing. Do you have a feeling that you need to do it.

Now there is a difference between addiction and habit. You have done this every night for a long time. It is a habit. But what would happen if you did not for one or two nights would you have an adverse reaction to it?

Would you all of a sudden be more nervous. Much more likely to bite someones head off? Can't get to sleep no matter how tired you are?

Try that and see what happens. If you have no problems you are not addicted. Wine in and of itself is actually good for you. But to excess.....as with everything....it is bad.

Try cutting back to one glass a night. If you are so use to getting a buss from this that alone will tell you.

If you pass all those tests tell your husband to join you he will live longer.

I'm not saying you SHOULD stop. Forget about your husband for one second.

If you wanted to, could you skip your two glasses a few evenings here or there? Would that bother you? If the answer is no, andyou MUST have a few evening drinks, even if you don't drink & drive, etc, then you MAY have a problem.

I think your husband may be concerned at not the amount you are drinking, but just the fact that you HAVE to drink a few before going to bed.

It doesn't seem like that much of a big deal, but if it's something you HAVE to depend on to function, or sleep (much like sleeping pills) you may have an addiction.

Good luck.

Most doctors will say that a glass of red wine a nigh is actually good for your heart. If the only reason it's causing problems is your new husband, then tell him that he married you knowing who you are. Also, could you skip a night? If you can't go one night without a glass of wine, then you have a problem. If any of this sounds like you have a problem maybe try going down to one glass a night.

If you or your body depends on it then you are an alcoholic. Do not drink any wine for the next month and if you have no change in your life style then go back to drinking your two class of wine.

You may be an alcoholic, as many are only to a certain degree. If you can limit it to just two glasses, and it isn't affecting anything you do, it should be okay. Then again, your husband's wishes should be respected. Try to find a compromise.

It is a problem if you can't stop after one or two. Your new husband should do some reading on alcoholism before he makes any judgements.
