If we could believe that their intetions are what they say I would say that they are important. What happens may not be terribly clear either as those in control of our government don't have much control of it. I think a mix of the two is best, look at your politician's voting record, pay attention to what they say in speaches.

Actions always speak louder than words, a person can say many things, promise many things, but in order to have any good come out of anything, you muse move forward, and make those intentions reality.

He says what he means,
He doesn't back down.
He does what he thinks is right, regardless of polls.
You know where he stands. No surprises.
No tricks.

What is important and the only thing that is ...ist that they serve the PUBLIC that elected them.

Problem is once in, they get seduced and serve the lobbyist with all the money, take the perks and the constituents be damned. All interest is self interest. You got one more shot...vote them OUT.
