If I call my mother my mother intelligent people don't think much of it.

But if I say my father's mother-in-law's husband's daughter is my mother they just swallow the answer like a sweet sugar pill.

But this definition can refer to my mother as well as my aunt, right ?

The other day I asked someone why can people not breathe in water ? Instead of saying breating requires gas - air normally found on earth to be inhaled and water does not have that,

he said :

Breating is fire, water is cool the opposite of fire and body is earth and so
when you go under water you can't normally breathe since earth separates water and fire and since cool water is surroung the earth the fire can't come there !!!! Hence !!!!!!!
Also earth is heavier than water so you drown in water.

Then I askede whether metal is heavier than water.
Then how do big ships sail ?
The guy had still more complex explanation foir this.

Don't you think the guy needs psychiatric help at the least ?

That's funny!

When you ask a question, you run the risk that some people may not be answering your question at all but just babbling or psychotic or writing surrealistic poems or just being silly. After all, what's the reward for a decent answer? 2 points. What's the penalty for a bad answer? 2 points. Or maybe they're trying to get that elusive best answer for 10 points. Or maybe they think if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS...

The point is to sift through illogical answers & find one that suits you...

The evidence you present to support your contention (that intelligent people fall prey to complex logical explanation) is insufficient to reach that conclusion.

I suspect most people, whatever their intelligence levels, wouldn't think much about anyone calling their mother by that title. Your other statement (the one swallowed like a sweet sugar pill) is equally unremarkable although more complexly expressed - the definition could refer to your aunt if you had not specified that it applies to your mother. Therefore the statement is simply true, there's nothing to fall for (your aunt is clearly not your mother).

As for the other person possibly requiring psychiatric help and their answers, how does this contribute in any way to your contention?

It is of the nature of logic (a process of deduction from given facts) that it does not give bizarre or unpredictable results. If something is taken for a fact and is in fact false then the logical conclusion based on it will be false (or only accidentally true) but that is not the fault of the logical process itself, rather of what is put into it.

it is same with most things life. people embrace complication, ...if you give a simple and correct explanation..it is rejected. but if you use extravagant words they are impressed and it is the same answer. its the same concept.,. that requires local talent to go elsewhere to be appreciated.. a relative or friend can give advice.. but you are more impressed with a strangers point of view which boils down to the same thing said by relative or friend. clothes from garage sales..and second hand stores are frowned upon.. but if you change the name to vintage.or...consignment.. hey a watercress sandwich is still wilted lettuce

You can't depend on other people for answers. Most of your Questions are easy. You just have to do the research for yourself..use the tools you had in front of you.Like the computer.

no, he doesn't...it's just the way he sees the world..the way he thinks...he tries to explain the way he understands....so don't blame him for that...if others see the world differently..should they see a doctor?? come on people!
