For me, it would have to be ''no, no, no, no, he's outside looking in'' from my favourite song of all time 'legend of a mind'. It refers to Timothy Leary, who now really is dead. I like it because it makes me think of after we die as being 'outside looking in'- a positive freedom rather than a dark ending.

I just read over that and I don't want anyone to think I'm suicidal or anything; it just lightens the mind when you think of the future and how transcient life is.

This could turn into the world's most boring rant, so just a few:

My favourite metaphor in a song:

'The ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face'

From 'Visions Of Johanna' by Bob Dylan. It gives me the image of a woman with hooded eyes, her face illuminated by dim strip lighting in an otherwise dark room, staring at the man she's about to lose.

My favourite lines about death:

'If you close the door, the night could last forever,
Leave the sunshine out, and say hello to never.'

From 'After Hours' by the Velvet Underground. All the better because it has a jaunty female voice (their drummer, Mo Tucker's, and it's bad!) over a mock-1930s jazz feel. Would not have worked as well with Lou Reed's voice.

My favourite lines about insanity:

'Candy cannot hear or see,
She's in the place she needs to be,
She'll take the pointed sharpened blade,
And give you something warm to taste.'

'Psychocandy' by The Jesus & Mary Chain

On a brighter note...

that's it ; )

Good question!

Way too deep for me at this time of night.
I was like that about 20 years ago.
Now I'm more laid back and dreaming of sunnier places...

"I'm going where the sun keeps shining
Through the pouring rain....
Going where the weather suits my clothes..
Banking off with the northeast wind..."

Dream on (Silverbird)

But if it's real chills you want listen to Eric Burden's "Sky Pilot", about a chaplain during the war, the music is fabulous too.

"He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He's there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky"

First that comes to mind: "If the button is pushed, there ain't no running away. With the world in a grave, there'll be no one left to save". From "The Eve Of Destruction" Barry McGuire, 1965.

Mine is from a Dutch song about a Jewish woman who survived the second world war, and everybody she knew had died.
The line from the song is
"En ik voelde me verzuipen in een veel te groot verdriet"
The translation of that line is:
"And I could feel myself drowing in a too great sadness"

They send a chill down my spine in a good way:

"I hope I love you all my life" - Daniel Bedingfield's song "If You're Not The One"

"With my body and soul, I want more than you'll ever know." - From Dirty Dancing

Any line from "Thriller," I looooooove that song.

"Back home, off the run, singing songs that make you slit your wrists. It isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun. So I won't stop dying, won't stop lying; if you want I'll keep on crying. Did you get what you deserve? Is this what you always want me for?"
