If we cut off money for their oil completely-- leaving them very poor--
and stayed out of their country all together, aside for charity purposes on occasion,
Would Muslims over in those nations leave those in the Secular West alone?

What have they said themselves, that would make you believe that?

That is a good question. They haven't said anything that would make me believe that. In fact, they have expressed the opposite. Their goal isn't to be left alone, it is to dominate the world with their own radical brand of Islam. If we leave them alone, they will come after us sooner or later--it's just that simple.

If we left and stopped buying oil, China and others would make up some of that loss of income. They would not be poor. Remember, we in the West "created" most of the countries that we currently call the "Middle East" during the first half of the 20th century, including Israel and Saudi Arabia. However, it isn't so much the countries that have a beef with the West, it's the fundamentalists who view us and our societies as decadent infidels that must be converted to Islam or destroyed. The Islamic Fanatics are not going to leave us alone.

Not a chance of them leaving anyone alone. I was watching when President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the UN and he made it very clear that Isreal should be moved off their land and the United States took the land from others and the people should be moved back to the country they came from. So if we laid down our arms President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would take over the world and place people where he wanted to. He made it very clear he was Islamic and as you know the whole world would convert or face the sword.

So NO they would not leave us alone. We are doing just what needs to be done and that is go to them and not all them to bring their holy war here. Keep the fighting on their ground and not in the USA.

No way. I am saying what has been stated from roof tops by Ulema the learned people of Islam. Their mandate is to convert whole world to Islam and bring the entire world under sharia law a vee bit better than how Taliban ruled in Afghanistan. So you can not withdraw and sit pretty. It is a serious threat. World has to sit up and take note before it is too late. You need to have A George Bush in each of the Western Nation to solve this problem collectively once and for all.

No. for one, they are already in America. Second, they believe that they are the only true religion and everyone must convert to them or die. It is sad that we are moving rapidly towards a global war with no boundaries, over religion. Hopefully our kids will live through it to see a better world. And those who think that all this is over oil, have you seen one terrorist claim leave my country or no more oil? Another thing, do you think the 68 year old nun shot in the back was a threat to anyone, other than their religion? They claim that they are a peaceful people, but actions speak louder than words.

And no, I am not judging this on my religious values.

No. Appeasement and peace are not the agenda for radicals. Radicals found within any type of system, be it religous, governmental or otherwise seek only one thing. Power. To believe that power within their own countries would be enough is naieve. I feel great sadness for Islam because these cancerous factions have used it to promote their own purposes. I'm reminded of the Crusades and how right they thought they were to enlighten the heathens. Such arrogance pursued by any religious sect can only end in defiling the principles upon which it was founded.

Of course they wouldn't leave us alone, it is our existence as non-Muslims that offends the fanatics:

Sheik Nasser bin Suleiman Al-Omar said in remarks broadcast on the Arab satellite network Al-Jazeera April 19, "The Islamic nation now faces a great phase of jihad," according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.

Referring to sacred Muslim writings that accompany the Quran, the sheik said, "Whoever is familiar with the Sunna and the Hadith knows that a battle against the enemies of Allah awaits on the horizon, in which the Muslims will be victorious. This is confirmed by the reliable hadiths, as well as by reality."

Jihad is now taking place in Afghanistan, "Palestine," Iraq, Chechnya, Kashmir and the Philippines, he said.

Meanwhile, the sheik asserted to his audience, love for America is "now disappearing from the hearts, within America itself and elsewhere, whereas Islam is growing even within America, my brothers."

"Islam is making steady progress in America," Al-Omar said. "Twenty-five thousand people have converted to Islam every year since 9-11, and an even larger figure was mentioned in the New York Times."

In a June 13, 2004, interview with Al-Majd television, Al-'Omar said "America is collapsing from within."

"Where are America's principles of justice and democracy?" he asked. " … Is America now, with its reputation and status, the same America of 30 years ago – the source of hope for many people?"

Islam is "advancing according to a steady plan," the sheik said, "to the point that tens of thousands of Muslims have joined the American army and Islam is the second largest religion in America."

"Today," he said, "America is defeated. I have no doubt, not even for a minute, that America is on its way to destruction."

Remember Bali? Remember Kenya? Remember Spain?

No, running away will not sole problems. The Oil? I'd be more worried about Hugo Chavez than the Mid east guys. We actually get most of our oil from non Mid East sources.

Absolutely they would not. They see what we have on the Internet and want it themselves, but are unwilling to live like civilized people and WORK to get it. Now many of them are good people, but they let themselves live in fear because of a few despotic morons, whether it be Saddam or the local neighborhood jihadist thugs. We cannot cut off their oil money, I am sure China and Russia (sound familiar?) would always get it to them through thier channels.

No. They view the west, and America in particular, as an evil, decadent society. They feel that our influence corrupts the morals of their societies. This happens whether we are physically there or not. The western values of materialism and individualism threaten the people who want to hold on to control by religious dominance.
