In Singapore, the best spectrum of people to be here are those at the bottom most but able workers, or the super rich top 5% income earners.
The bottom most have ministry of manpower to look after their wellfare, the benefits like late or failure of employers to pay salary, health benefits etc. Jobs also easy to find for this category.
The super rich benefit by having a low tax rate, low crime so that they can afford to show off their expensive cars, jewellery and valuables without much fear of being robbed or kidnapped. There are lots of good restaurants with cooking style from different countries here.
As accommodation and cars are expensive compared to the region, those higher wage earners or richer ones are advantaged. Petrol is also taxed.
Public transport is affordable (not dirt cheap though) and efficient and well connected.
So unless you are the coming to singapore to earn a big fat salary that allows you to enjoy life, then be prepared to live simply in the government built flats, have no car and eat at coffee shops and hawker centres(cheap and good food but no atmosphere). Else there is no way to pay for your bills here and save for retirement.
Locals have to option but to live with it. The middle class are the worst off. They don't enjoy much subsidy or benefits that the poorer ones enjoy, yet still have to pay taxes and the relatively high cost of living(compare to region).
So for the majority life just goes on. It may not be the best place on earth to be, but at least we can safely raise a family where good education, healthcare and low crime is part of the benefits.

Singapore jobs, living, food and expenses are ok except for houses and cars which are expensive compared to elsewhere.. but I have to say it gets boring, cause it is so small...
And foreigners normally have a hard time understanding Singlish (Singapore English)... It will take time for them to learn it..

The place to be! Modern city where everything works! Effective government, no corruption issues. A melting pot of different races/religions/cultures living in harmony. Low crime rate, no guns, no drugs. A safe city for living and bringing up children. Efficient public transport system. Great variety of food and shopping. Night life and entertainment is not too bad.

To put it briefly, Life is tough in Singapore if you're in the lower income group. About 200,000 Singaporean earn less than S$1500/mth and they made up of 20 percent of household here. Most Singaporean are assest rich but cash poor. Most outsiders think that generally life is good here but on closer scrutiny, it's surprisingly otherwise. To use comparison is irrelevant to answer your question. period.

I think Singapore is great. It has a good economy. It is relatively cheap compared to the western world. It is diverse, has good food and bills are relatively priced. The public transportation is also convenient. It is also very safe.

In terms of crime rates? It's relatively low, making it the safest place to be. Transportation is efficient & fast; reasonably priced as well.
I'd say that the overall social scene is rather stifling in many subjects considered taboo, what not, etc. Food is OK but it ain't all that.
As for lifestyle it's pretty steep. I guess if you're making your home here, the "pinch" wouldn't sting as much.

It's a mixed bag. Frankly we pay too much for our homes and vehicles. But the crime rate is one of the lowest in the world, and the food is great because we're cosmopolitan.

Life for the lower income is very tough. But if you compare that with other countries of our age-group (41 this year), we are the best.
I travel a lot and I can see them myself. In fact we are even better than a lot of other countries who are supposed to be more developed.
