I'm going to add 5 songs you might not have heard of - but heard of the artists:
1) The Stairs by Inxs: This was on the "X" album. Musically this song is perfect. Michael Hutchence's vocals are passionate (and prophetic to some extent). Lyrics are powerful and I never get tired of it.
2) The Working Hour by Tears For Fears: The was on "Songs From the Big Chair". The saxophone is really what gives this song the edge, but don't count the percussion.
3) The Goodbye Look by Donald Fagen: This was found on "The Nightfly" album. Listen to how Fagen talks about Old Havana of yesteryear.
4) Silver Rainbow by Genesis: Love this track from their self-titled album. Tony Banks' Keyboards never sounded better - even Phil Collins' drums are underrated.
5) "Ou est le Soleil" by Paul McCartney: What a great wrap-up song on the "Flowers in the Dirt" album. McCartney always liked to have fun in his music and this song wraps it up perfectly. The lyrics are basically three lines in French (Where is the Sun?) and has a terrific Euro-Pop beat

This is one of those things where there are just too many, but I'd say for me it's a toss up between 'In the air tonight' by Phil Collins, 'Lightning Crashes' by Live, and 'Better Man' by Pearl Jam. A pretty awesome song is 'Freshman' by Verve Pipe... check it out.
