Well, if its gone, as in its all been deleted, then there's no way you can get it back, unless you've made a back-up copy of everything in that hard-drive. Or, maybe someones just messing around with you and hidden all of the files. In that case, go to Tools > Folder Options > View > View Hidden Files

you need to open up safely remove hardware.. in the tool bar, and delete/roll back the external hardrive drivers... then plug it into usb again and let windows find it.... try also the CD it came with to install it.....i doubt very much if you have lost all your information.. its just a system problem which is easily cured...
also try system restore to go back to just after you put it on the first time.....

All hard drives have a thing called cache or a certain amount of memory attached to them that if erased, then it is stored to the cache. there are numerous restore programs availible to you. You should try looking one up on http://www.snapfiles.com/ they offer a variety of software programs.
If what you have deleted is over the cache amount, the files may be un-restorable. If you used a file shredder to delete your files then they are way beyond my expertise to restore

Try doing a system restore to a specific date and time.
i.e. back to when you know the files were on the drive.
