For all of those applauding Chavez, most democrats are outraged saying a guy from the outside from a foreign country where half the country is in poverty and suppresses freedom of speech, goes into OUR country, attacks our president, elected by majority of the people.
That is insulting our country, our president and our flag.
Then he attacked our country too. These leaders have no right to come on american soil and insult our country.
Maybe if the far left actually seemed sensible they wouldn't hurt the democrat's image for elections.

Used to be a democrat, and I agree. The far left are socialists and although well intentioned, their efforts are driving people that follow the news from the party. Now I vote independent, and I am leary of voting for a moderate democrat because once he/she gets to Washington, the candidate is under pressure to more to the left, at least it seems. One of the senators from my state was a moderate though his career here in state government, once he got to elected as senator in the federal government he moved to the left.
Unfortunately, some life long democrats either don't realize or care what has happend to the leadership of the party. When you elect Howard Dean as the DNC chair, you know you have a problem.

We import over a billion barrels of oil a day from Venezuela (number four on the list of countries where we get our oil). Chavez knows he has President Bush under his thumb.
By the way, you're wrong about speech in Venezuela...try here->

Quoting:{The law referred to by the Washington Post is the Law on the Responsibility of Radio and Television passed by the National Assembly in November. It does not allow for the silencing of dissent, but merely introduces the same type of regulation of content that exists in most countries in the world. The law regulates when sexual and violent content can be shown, prevents slander against public officials and private citizens and seeks to guarantee space in the media market for independent media. The law does provide for fines and the suspension of broadcasting for 48 hours for repeated violations, but the law is not administered by the government, but by an independent body.}
Remember that conservatives will ALWAYS lie to you when they are threatened by the idea of liberty and justice for all.
Also, the other day I was about to leave for work and glanced at my bookcase. I saw Chomsky's, "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance". It's amazing how, over the centuries, every time an imperial power (e.g. France, Britain, the US) invades a sovereign nation, they say it's to spread "freedom and democracy". The nations that we invade always have some material wealth the imperial power needs to continue its economic dominance- like oil or minerals or commodities. Why don't we spread freedom and democracy to Korea or Sudan? They have no useful wealth we can extract. Chomsky's book is enlightening and fascinating. It will behoove Americans to read who have no sense of how history repeats itself.

I agree. I consider myself a moderate Republican. If I had a choice between a far-right, religious fanatic and a moderate, down-to earth, realistic, centrist Democrat, I'd choose that Democrat.
