If I wanted to commit suicide, but yet wanted it to look like an accident, then I would would screw around with garage door springs.
Those springs are strong, highly compressed, and require special equipment to work on.
However, if you have a double indemnity clause in your life insurance policy and your wife needs money after your death, then go ahead and do it.

BE CAREFUL !!! This is one of the most dangerous home repairs. On most garage door springs the fitting on the end of the spring on four holes in it . Use a piece of vise grip to secure the pole the spring is on from moving. You need to 1/2 inch steel rods. You start
by putting the first rod in the hole and pushing the rod up , while holding the first rod up . place the second rod in the hole under the first , push the second rod up and continue doing this never releasing tension. This can be fatel if the rod slips out and strikes you in the head . I say to get a grage door person to do it , cost a few bucks, do not try this alone !!!

I agree with most of these answers. I had a two car garage door and one spring broke. When they go, you'll know it.."BANG!"
Anyway, I couldn't even lift the door an inch off the ground!!.
Another time I tried to wind one up..that'll be the last time. I count myself lucky to have all my fingers.
Best advice is to call the garage door repair/installation guys. They'll give your door a tune-up and make sure it's all balanced and such.It won't be a huge amount...You won't be sorry you payed a pro..especially if you have kids walking in and out.
Have a cold one and watch the guy do it, they are interesting to talk to and ya might learn something.
Good luck

Get a professional to do it. Some garage door springs can be widow-makers.
