if the song is 3 minutes with a good bitrate of 192K, its actual size is like 3 or 3.5Mb. Then if you have 1Gb which is equal to 1024Mb.,doing the math (1024/3.5Mb)=293 songs approximately.
I bet that all ur songs are 3.5 Mb.I dont convince u to buy a 2Gb which is double the 1GB(like 500 songs),its useless.I mean ur not a DJ or somth, therefore u can save some cash. But i got a solution for u.Download MP3 Diet !.Its an mp3 compression program which makes the mp3 ssize smaller from like 3.5-->1.5 Mb each, therefore u can fit in more songs.Try downloading it from any P2P prog (Limewire,Ares)so u get it free.As a result if u make the size of mp3 smaller,u will be able to fit in 500 songs in 1Gb,therefore u saved cash while fitting in in 1Gb as much as fitting in 2Gb

a 1GB MP3 Player should be able to hold about 250-300 songs depending on the bit-rate and size of the song. And a 2 GB should hold about double that of a 1GB.

Depends on the length of the songs (Eagles' Hotel California is almost 9").
MP3s are a meg a minute (1 MB per minute). Do the math. I'd say average of 200-300.

I own a Sandisk 1GB mp3 player and I can load up to 500 songs, encoded at 64kbps. The 2GB player will hold twice as much encoded at the same rate.

As an approximate rule of thumb:
MP3 (with the usual sampling rate): 1 min. = 1MB
normal CD files: 1 min. = 10 MB (or just a bit less)
That means that you can fit approximately 10 CDs on one CD if you convert files to MP3. So 1 GB memory should give you space for around 1000 min. of music.

it depends on your songs' bit rate. if you have/want high quality songs, your songs take up more space; if you have/want low quality songs, your songs take up less space. at 192kb/s (high quality), 1gb can probably hold up to 170 songs; at 128kb/s (normal quality, which is good enough), can about 300 songs; at 32 or 64kb/s, it can hold up to more than a thousand. you can hold like five thousand songs if you really don't care about quality.
