I am a ski racer and I have this fear of getting seriously heart while racing, like tearing my ACL or never being able to walk agian. I have read autobiographies about racers that this has happened to. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get over my fears?

I'm a skiier as well. I'll admit I've gotten hurt badly, but never have torn an ACL or anything beyond that. If you go into a race (do you do downhill, slalom, or super g) you can't have anything in your head besides getting down the course and winning. Let everything else melt away. Tension is good, but too much makes you peform poorly.
If you feel like you are getting out of control, regain your control and harden yourself. I think you can handle the fear, its just a matter of will.

Tearing an ACL, sure that can happen. Never being able to walk again? Besides the lady who fell off "the other side of the mountain", I haven't heard of it. It also happens with just about any other sport, so why not bash some gates. It will give you a solid foundation for many years of happy skiing once the racing days are over. Good luck!

i do not race FIS or u.s., yet merely masters. nonetheless, as a ski racer, i have realized distinct what you indexed above, plus more advantageous in words of the technical aspects of carving a turn, body position etc. The coaches i have worked with have dealt oftentimes with skills and gate concepts, yet they're going to inform you all about wax, area polishing, etc in case you ask. distinct what i have realized about wax and tuning I picked up from different adult males that race.
