If you are a smoker, quit! Being a smoker, I know that this is what made my cholesterol go up. There have actually been no ties to eating food high in cholesterol and your particular cholesterol levels. Still, watching fatty foods, cheeses and butter can't hurt. There are several medications out on the market available through prescription that can aide in lowering cholesterol. However, these tend to have some side effects such as raising your liver enzymes. Once on a medication, you will have to get constant blood tests and, most likely, stay on that medication for life. I would keep up the exercise and watch the diet...

My husband has been watching is diet. He eats oatmeal every morning(the kind in the packet). I try to keep anything that has "Hydrogenated" on the label, out of the house...Hydrogenation is what clogs the arteries. I have finally convinced him that he CAN have some red meats. He thinks if it has "feathers" it's safe to eat... I've found that lean hamburger has less Cholesterol than ground turkey! Also, eat some Salmon and Tuna...Omega -3 is good for you. He has lost over 20 lbs. in the last 8 months or so...ALSO something to watch when high cholesterol is in the picture, your weight.

You first need to reduce the stress in your life. Stop smoking if you are. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Take Omega 3 fish oil daily and also take red yeast rice (you will find both in healthfood store). Stay on this regiment and your LDL will go down becase your HDL will go up. (HDL reduces LDL in the body).

You need to watch what you eat, even crackers and that can have high fat and sodium content. Stick to red meat twice a week, fish or chicken, grilled only and plenty of fruit and veges. Also, alcohol, especially beer is high in bad cholesterol, but a glass of red wine each day is good for you. Plenty of water and a regular walk (20 mins) everyday.

Keep an eye on your cholesterol. Know what is good and what is not. Get plenty of exercise and put good cholesterol into Yahoo search and read up more about it. Here are a few sites to get you started.
