Singapore is just 30 minutes by fast boat ferry(at around hourly departures schedules) from Batam in the Riau achipelago. So close that Singapore currency is commonly used. Part of the reason could also be the large numbers of Singaporeans going there as well as setting up their businesses there.
Singapore is so close to Both Indonesia and Malaysia that in its old history, it was at one time either part of the Riau(Indonesia) Sultanate or Johor(Malaysia) Sultanate influence and control.
Medan is about 45 minutes flight,
Bali (other end of Indonesia) about 1 hour flight.

We're just above you on the map, you know. Think it's about an hour's flight from Bali if I don't remember wrongly.
