yea. what's a game if nothing bad like that ever happens? what's a game if mistakes don't even matter? if we were never punished for mistakes, we'd be wild men doing crazy thigns and getting away with it. football is like life. mistakes are apart of life. who would we be if we were never punished for our mistakes? mistakes give us experience, they help us learn.

Yes they should count, if they didn't the defending team could kick the ball into their own net whenever they were under pressure. Also it would cause more arguments about what counts as an own goal, for example; a deflection, how much does it have to deflect to count as an own goal. And the main reason, when it happens to the team you're playing against its funny!

of course they should count otherwise whats the point of having a goalkeeper, footballers would just bang it in there own net all the time to get out of trouble, besides it,s funny and some of the best goals ever are own goals.

Ummm...... that is a good question. I think that they should count because the rule is when the ball goes into a goal you get a point. If you score in your own goal then it is like the other team scoring a goal it just that you scored it for them.

they do make the player who scored the own goal feel really bad but at the end of the day the basic rules of football are ball goes in the net . It may be unfair but the players will get over it eventually.

Oh yes as they reduce the number of times they pass back to the goal keeper / playing safe.

yes of course,
they are usually the result of poor defending or idiocy or just bad luck. otherwise a defender could end play by scoring an own goal rather than facing the oncoming attack.

Last I heard a goal is a goal (as long as no rules are broken), irrespective of who scores it.
