you shouldnt mix the 2. But I think the real problem would be if you put DOT 3 in a DOT 4 car. The other way around you should be ok. The DOT 4 has a higher boiling point and is mostly used in ueropean cars. Do not put DOT 3 in DOT 4.

Why are you adding to it?
It's a sealed system that has the proper amount to indicate brake pad\shoe wear. If the fluid is low, then your brakes are worn.
If you add more fluid to the system, when you have the brakes serviced, all the extra fluid is going to overflow the master cylinder when the calipers are pressed in making a huge mess.
By the way, DOT 3 and DOT 4 are different. I wouldn't recommend mixing the two.

The answer is no on all counts. Whatever the vehicle came with is what you put in. Mixing fluids will affect the boiling point and make your brakes useless.

Read the lable on the 4 can. It can be mixed or used in place of 3. Just a newer/better version of the same thing to comply with department of transportation (dot) rules.

I thought that brake fluid was just brake fluid AND clutch fluid is different because your clutch deals with your transmission and DO NOT MIX THEM !!!

Yes you can mix it. And yes you can use it on older vehicles. I would not use it on a new one. If in doubt check the owners manual.
