Good luck with your picking. My nails are really thick and tough, I have driven screws with my thumbnails. But when I play gitfiddle I still groove them and get little nicks. I think the problem is that there is so much pressure on a very small point that everyone will have some problems. My wife has tender nails but sometimes she goes to a saloon and has some type of bond applied that really makes them tough. It isn't expensive. If you go to a nail saloon and ask I am sure they will have some product that will help you. However, I doubt that it will totally solve the problem.

Obviously eat foods containing Calcium, dairy products etc. You can also use clear nail varnish but my advice is to learn how to use a plectrum. Possibly you're using the wrong type. There are dozens of sizes and shapes, some hard, some soft. Personally I prefer the medium soft ones, my favourite being Jim Dunlop 73mm.

Some people get acrylic nails put on, other use nail polish with strengtheners. Think I even used one that allegedly had Teflon!
I resisted using a pick, but now do it. You might also consider using just a thumb pick. It makes a loud clear sound, but doesn't go flying!

I have the exact same problem. Eats lots of jelly (providing you are not a vegetarian) and keeps your picking hand nails as short as you can ie. still leave a bit for contact with the strings.

Don't like plectrums - Keep on pickin'

You really can't strengthen your nails much. But you can use the tips of your fingers. I've played that way for 28 years. You just have to get a feel for it like anything else.

Saw Paul McCartney at a taping of the Ellen Degeneres Show. He said his soon to be former wife suggested an acrylic nail. Off he went to the nail shop & he seemed pretty happy w/it.

You don't need to strengthen your nails. it works perfectly well with normal finger nails. some use the face (meat) of the thumb. the same position of hand but instead of fore finger nail, use the thumb. try it.

PVA glue, can give you a boost, but dont eat anything with your hands cause it will make you sick, rub into your fingers l;eave to dry, or youll mess your strings, filling your nails is also advisable but takes longer
