Perhaps he is telling the truth; alcohol can make you forget. But the bigger question might be, why does he feel he needs to have to lie to you? I have counseled many relationships, and I find that many times one mate lies, not to be dishonest, but to simply avoid the conflict and hurting the feelings of their mate.
Ideally your mate is not only your favorite lover [by choice, not necessity], but also your best friend. However, many times a mate cannot accept that they are but one of many people of the same sex their mate can be attracted to, and thus they cannot be their mates best friend, because it hurts or angers them. For example: why did he go to a strip club with other guys, instead of you, and why was he out clubbing with other guys instead of you?
This is not to say that you are wrong, or that he is right. For the same questions can be asked of him. Perhaps he was out of town on business, but if he was not, then what is it about his friends that are different, than friendship you can offer him? This is where it becomes perhaps equally at fault. Perhaps he goes out with them, because you do not like doing the things he likes to do, but then, if he is not happy with you as a friend, why does he remain with you?
A person will stay with a mate, that is not their best friend, simply for all the other pleasures of life; family, home environment, financial advantages, and sex. The only trouble is; friendship is the basic essential for all lasting relationships of any value. Thus you need to find out how to become his best friend, and he needs to figure out how to become yours.

actually a person can do this and forget about it...i use to drink and i never remembered what happened...but i quit drinking...if he came home to you and you do not see any signs of him stepping out on you hopefully all will be ok...but lying to you is not good either...you have to be able to trust your boyfriend or it will not be a good relationship....just keep your eyes and ears open...and if you think he is cheating on you or you are not happy....then leave him....find someone that wants a commitment and one that tells the truth.......but you know when guys go out together they can get into some crazy things....and so does the girls....and sometimes it is really just innocent fun....so i think you are going to have to think this out better yourself....good luck.....myself i think guys cheat and i find it hard to trust them....hope things do not work out like that for you though.....

If I had a girlfriend who did that, I'd end the relationship.
What you do depends on what you want. I would want someone I could spend time with and really talk to. I respect myself, and I care about who I spend my time with, so I wouldn't settle for anything less.
