I need to talk to a psychiatrist really bad but don't have the money to do so. I was wondering if there was a website or if anyone knew of a psychiatrist that I could maybe talk to through email or an Instant Messeging program? One that wont charge me anything as I don't have any money. Please, I am in need of one really bad.

Please phone the hot line number for depression, in your area. If the only number you find is listed under suicide, don't be put off, they are trained and have a list of services for your specific needs. A psychologist, or other mental health worker may be as helpful as a psychiatrist. There is, unfortunately, no instant fix. A psychiatrist may prescribe drugs, and it normally takes up to 6 weeks for those to start working. A psychologist can't write prescriptions and will spend a lot of time talking with you to discover the most likely cause of your current distress. Psychologist is my choice. Best of luck to you.

Be very, very leery of anyone you talk with on line. There's a lot of quacks and a lot of nosy people out there. If you do talk by Internet, you may want to set up an email address specifically for this one use.

Im not a psychiatrist nor a psychologist but I have an idea for you. My professor (psychology) spoke of a free clinic that he used to work in. I asked him about it, he said they are hard to find but they are out there. (His was within a church)

I am sure you have a community mental health (CMH) where you live. You can find out through social services if you can't find it in the phone book. I believe their services are free.

Also some psycholigist will take pay on a sliding fee. (Pay what you can afford) All you need to do is start making some phone calls. Let them know your situation. (not much money, and no insurance if you don't have any) You can get insurance through social services. (Human resource building.)

Good luck to you

Try these WONDERFUL SITES! They are free and sometimes much better than going to see a shrink. www.healthyplace.com or this one is in the top ten! www.psychcentral.com really try them they are great sometimes life touching and their are also people just like you that can bring much help. Online Psych is going to be a future success it is not like any old site it is very safe because unlike on Answers each post is watched and it is more watched over.

If it relates to suicide, depression, or domestic violence, there are often hotlines available to call in through most city or state services, which are free.
