these deal with count and non-count nouns eg few=countable, i have a few glasses of water, or little=non-countable, i have a little water. a lot of can be used with either countable or non-countable nouns eg i have a lot of water, i have a lot of glasses of water. many, or how many=countable eg how many chairs, much or how much=non-countable eg how much furniture do you have.

"A little" and "a lot" can be used interchangeably to apply to anything.
I have a little money. I have a lot of friends.

"A few" and "how many" are used with items you can count.
I have a few friends. How many gallons will your gas tank hold?

"How much" is used with things that can't be counted.
How much traffic is there on Route 128? How much gas will your tank hold?
