Both are near to your .... The difference lies in the type of material and use. Lingerie is for comfort during night and usually made of light weight material woven light. Usually it is made of cotton and is a bit transparent.
Swimwear is basically made of Nylon/Water proof sort of thing. It is closely woven heavy material fabric. It is light in weight due to the material used but is thick.
These two cannot be used interchangeably due to obvious reason of comfort and usage.
Though both the dresses are alluring and sexy. But if you use lingerie as swimwear it would be free for all. All your vitals will be for demonstration. Treat to watch for others.

Besides the obvious being lingerie' is for foundation (under garments) and sleep wear and swimwear is for swimming and on the beach. The weight of the fabric used for swimwear is greater.

Lingerie is typically womens underwear, as in bra's and knickers, thongs etc...
Swimwear is for swimming, believe it or not! Can be in the form of an all in one swimsuit or a two piece like a bikini. Materials used to make them are different than lingerie and you dont usually wear them on a day to day basis underneath your clothes...

Open to interepretation. The office firewall (websense) seems to have same meaning for both. But lingeries are those see-throughs while swimwears are the peep-throughs.

Have you ever seen the commerical, where the guy is wearing a speedo at the beach and he's by water and that ok. But when he walks up the town isn't by any water, the speedo becomes underwear. As longs as your by a body of water, lake, pool, pond or ocean, it's consider swimwear.
When your not by water, it's lingerie or underwear.

first and foremost the material used. secondly whether it is intended to sleep in or swim in, and more often than not lingerie is designed to be alluring , sexy and even naughty as to arrowse one's partner(s), swim wear may to a smaller degree do this but not in the same way or for the same reasons.
