c stands for the constant or variable less term
in this case it is 34
a for the coefficient of the square of the variable say x^2 and b the scoefficient of the variable term say x
here a=10 and b=-27
if your quadratic polynomial is 10x^2-27x+34

The typical quadratic equation is ax2 + bx + +c. X is the variable. It will have a variable value. The first term of your example should be simplified to 10 x to the square. 10 will stand for a, which is the constant prefix of the squared term of the variable. b will stand for the constant prefix of the second term which is the linear value of the variable and the third term (c) is always a constant
In other words, you should work with the equation 10x2 - 27x +34. To solve it , you can use the procedure you
know or the formula for solving quadratics.
I believe that sometimes a simple explanation is the best and this long one could be confusing. Anyway I will be wiling to clear any doubts you could still have.

a is coefficient of x^2 b of x and c the constant term

in this case 10x^2+27x+34
a= 10 b = 27 c = 34

The standard equation for quadratic is ax^2+bx+c=0

That's your a,b,c

In your example: 2x5x - -27x + 34

Simplify it:

10x^2+27x+34=0

Thus, your

a=10
b=27
c=34

a stands for the coefficient of x^2, b for the coefficient of x, for the constant number.
Eg: In 2x^2 + 3x + 5, a=2,b=3,c=5
Soln of a quadratic eqn is (-b+-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a

ax^2 +bx+c

10x^2 + 27x + 34

(-b+1 sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a

(-17+-sqrt(289-1360))/20
