I think there was a misunderstanding. When Armitage said "we" would bomb them back to the stone age--I think he was referring to Afghanistan. And Musharraf didn't want the Afghanis to have to go through that because of a few men.
The press conference showed both presidents to be congenial toward each other. In fact Bush plugged Musharraf's book.
I think Armitage has been a fall guy for a couple of different reasons.
