There are 50 states in the United States of America:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
Alaska and Hawaii are the only two states that do not touch the others. Alaska is connected to Canada, and Hawaii is an island group in the Pacific Ocean. The other 48 states are all grouped together, and are often called the "Continental US" because of the fact that they are all joined. Sometimes people also call the continental states the "Lower 48", because they are all south of Alaska.
Our flag has 50 stars on it, and each one represents on of the states. We also have territories and protectorates, but the above list is the official list of our states. Our capital is not located in any state. It is called Washington D.C., and the D.C. stands for District of Columbia, and it is a separate little area in the Eastern part of our country. It is treated like a state in many ways, but technically is not a state.

thats a good question for US but my dear friend frm INDIA - heard today that TRS has resigned from UPA - so how many states do you think will be there tommorrow in INDIA ? hahahahah....if your question is out of accademic interest then there are 52 states otherwise lets start thinking abt our country too !!!!!!....
