Submitting your site to search engines won't help you, you need to read up about 'Search Engine Optimisation' (or SEO for short).
Basic SEO isn't difficult but there is a lot of knowledge to swallow. Because this question gets asked so much here at Yahoo! Answers, I've written a basic guide to SEO which is freely available for download at http://www.adambunn.co.uk/seo-beginners.php
Sometimes you will get away with the basic knowledge in my little book and sometimes you will need a lot more help from a professional; it all depends on what market you are in.

I take it you mean how to get good search engine ranings?
It's a whole science. There are people who specialize in it.
In general:
1) No more than 150 keywords and repeat them early and often in your page content
2) Find similar sites and exchange links with them (very important)
3) Do not radically change your content until you have good rankings
4) Put a file called 'description.txt' in the root of your web directory.

type www.(your website here).com in a google or ask, then you should find it
